The Value of Mailing to Families

Kids in the Know is an alliance of education-related groups - associations and companies that make a difference by providing valuable information, services, and opportunities to parents and young people. It encompasses colleges and universities, publishers like Highlights for Children and Dr. Suess whose magazines and books have helped children learn for decades, providers of scholarships and information on financial aid, and other groups that contribute to the education, growth, and development of young people in a wide variety of ways. Together Kids in the Know members serve American children - from the very young to college age - and their parents.

The organizations united to address issues affecting their ability to reach families through the mail and the Internet. Kids in the Know was founded to raise awareness about legislation that would cripple efforts by legitimate entities to effectively reach families through direct-mail communication; and would deny families their right to be made aware of services, products and opportunities that are of value - often of critical value - to them and their children.

Mission Statement:

Every American family benefits from information they receive through the mail and the Internet. And, thousands of organizations rely on direct mail as the most cost-effective way to inform families about educational opportunities and offer materials and services that contribute directly to the development and welfare of children.

Recognizing this reality, Kids in the Know is an alliance of organizations dedicated to:

  • enhancing the education, health, safety, and enrichment of children and families;
  • ensuring that families and young people continue to have access to information, services and products provided in an economical way through the mail and the Internet; and
  • protecting the rights, privacy, and safety of the families they serve.

To this end, the Coalition works with other organizations that share their commitment to ensuring that America's young people, and their families, can truly be "in the know" about opportunities that can make a difference in the lives of the next generation.
